Blog Post #5: Interview Planning
The issue that will be the topic of my interview is the homeless crisis in San Francisco. For my interview, I am thinking of interviewing my friend Toby. He has lived in San Francisco for most of his life and currently lives in the city. In addition, we grew up together, and we both went to the same high school which is located near the Tenderloin. He is a good person for me to interview because he travels around the city often and he sees the homeless crisis in San Francisco firsthand. In addition, he is a good friend of mine and setting up and conducting the interview will be easier to do. To conduct this interview, I am planning on interviewing Toby through face time because I am in San Diego and he is in San Francisco during this time. To record this interview with Toby, I will use an audio recording or a recording app to record the interview. Then, I will transcribe the interview into a script through Microsoft Word. I will explain the topic of this interview to Toby by explaining the issue, but he knows the issue well since he is downtown a lot. Interview questions I am planning to ask are:

What’s the biggest change, if any, you’ve noticed on the streets since you were young to now? Why do you think that is?
Do you feel like the city’s high cost of living is the main cause, or do you think it’s mostly about mental health and addiction? If it is all 3, what is the main reason?
Do you think the homeless crisis is getting better or has there been no improvement?
What is the current state of the city in terms of the homeless?
What is one thing you think the city should do right now that they aren't doing? Why?
I do not foresee any real problems besides setting aside time to conduct this interview.
