Blog Post #6: Reflecting on Interviews My problem that I chose was the homeless problem, specifically in San Francisco. The person I interviewed is related to this problem because they are residents of the city. They have lived in San Francisco for most of their life and can see firsthand the affects and impacts of homelessness. In addition, they are aware of the plans and actions the city government makes to combat the increase of homeless and people living on the street.  This might have impacted their answers because the answers they gave me had firsthand experiences of the homeless and a better insight to the problem since they are around downtown and areas affected the most. Being from San Francisco myself, I am aware of the homeless problem and I did not learn too much new information about the problem regarding to homelessness. However, the person I interviewed helped me gain a new perspective of homelessness and how those on the streets are affected and in the end are...

Blog Post #5: Interview Planning

The issue that will be the topic of my interview is the homeless crisis in San Francisco. For my interview, I am thinking of interviewing my friend Toby. He has lived in San Francisco for most of his life and currently lives in the city. In addition, we grew up together, and we both went to the same high school which is located near the Tenderloin. He is a good person for me to interview because he travels around the city often and he sees the homeless crisis in San Francisco firsthand. In addition, he is a good friend of mine and setting up and conducting the interview will be easier to do. To conduct this interview, I am planning on interviewing Toby through face time because I am in San Diego and he is in San Francis co during this time. To record this interview with Toby, I will use an audio recording or a recording app to record the interview. Then, I will transcribe the interview into a script through Microsoft Word. I will explain the topic of this interview to Toby by exp...

The city of San Francisco is regarded as one of the most important and well-known cities on the west coast. It is the hub of unique architectural feats, a diverse population, and the center of new AI technology and business. The scenery of the bay area and the Golden Gate Bridge make the city one of the most unique cities in the country. However, the homeless crisis in San Francisco has been ongoing since the 1970s and has been a top priority for the city and the residents of San Francisco to change. Many different times, we hear about the news and updates of the homeless crisis and what is going on through the news, and we hear the city government take charge and explain what they are doing to change the situation. The mayor, Daniel Lurie, talks about his program, “Break the Cycle”, and explains he will give beds to those who need them. We also hear from frustrated business owners about the homeless individuals who find shelter outside their business buildings. The homeless of S...

Blog Post #3: The Problem Born and raised in San Francisco all my life for almost two decades, I have seen the rapid change of the city in all aspects such as the culture, landscape, and business. The city of San Francisco   is a beautiful city and is unique in every way, from the architecture of each neighborhood to the many parks and scenic views of the city and the bay. However, there has been an issue affecting most, if not all, of the city for the past several years. The issue that I am concerned with is the homeless crisis that San Francisco is still currently battling. When walking around the city, especially in the South of Market and Tenderloin areas, you are able to see many encampments of the homeless along the sidewalks and in parks. These encampments can spread a couple blocks, and can make walking from one side of the block to another almost impossible. This is due to the many tents and people covering the cement. This issue is a humanitarian emergency and has b...

Currently, in my life while living on campus at San Diego State, I have faced some problems. One of the major problems I have faced this year and my freshman year of college is the lack of transportation. People who live on campus with cars can go anywhere in San Diego whenever they want to, such as the beach, downtown, Balboa Park, or the San Diego Zoo. They have the luxury and freedom to be able to leave campus and experience life outside of school housing and school life. However, it is much more difficult for those without transportation such as a car to leave campus. There are some ways students without cars can get off campus such as the trolley and zip cars. However, zip cars cost money, and can be expensive when only trying to take a trip to buy groceries or going to the beach.  https://www.sdmts.com/getting-around/maps-and-schedules   The trolley is another way students can get around, but the trolley stations are only located in specific areas, so you may not ...

Blog Post #1: Intro      Hello everyone, my name is Skyler Paulsen and I am currently a sophomore student who attends San Diego State University. I am an Economics major and I also plan on minoring in finance. I am originally from San Francisco and have grown up in the city all my life. "Image by Tiket.com, https://www.tiket.com/en-my/to-do/tiket-san-francisco-grand-city-tour-with-optional-muir-woods-and-sausalito-combo-tour" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Francisco   I love to travel, go to the gym, go fishing, spend time with friends, and to get out into nature. I have been fortunate enough to have been able to travel to many places in my life, such as Mexico, Switzerland, Spain, Indonesia, and many other places. Being able to travel to various places in the world has broadened my perspectives on the ways I live, the things I value, and the cultures I encountered in my travels. I go to the gym on a regular and consistent basis, and I try to go at least f...
